Kurt Busch pulled away from the rest of the field on the second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish, and drove his Dodge to victory in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Penske Championship Racing announced that Steve Addington will serve as crew chief for the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge and driver Kurt Busch next season. Addington comes to PCR from Joe Gibbs Racing, where he served as crew chief for Kurt’s younger brother, Kyle Busch, and the No. 18 Toyota.

NASCAR issued fines and points penalties to Earnhardt Ganassi Racing after Martin Truex Jr’s car was found to be too low during post-race inspection. Teresa Earnhardt was docked 50 owners’ points. Truex lost 50 drivers’ points, and crew chief Kevin Manion was fined $50,000 and place on probation.

Jimmie Johnson showed the other Chase drivers that he is in Championship form, dominating the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway. Johnson led for 271 of 400 laps, and he pulled to within 10 points of the points-lead. Hendrick Motorsports teammate, and points-leader, Mark Martin finished second.
As expected, Michael Waltrip Racing announced that Pat Tryson would become the crew chief of Martin Truex Jr and the No. 56 NAPA Toyota next season.
