Kurt Busch pulled away from the rest of the field on the second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish, and drove his Dodge to victory in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne nipped Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart at the line respectively to emerge from the Gatorade Duels victorious. The combined margin of victory was .02 of a second. Johnson beat Harvick by a mere .005, and Kahne beat Stewart by .014.
Denny Hamlin won the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, while Jimmy Johnson secured his fourth consecutive Sprint Cup championship. Hendrick Motorsports also swept the top three positions in the final standings.
