NASCAR has decided not to suspend Carl Edwards for the incident with Brad Keselowski in which Edwards made contact with Keselowski, sending his car airborne. NASCAR did, however, put Edwards on probation for the next three Sprint Cup races.
Sunday’s incident between Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards during the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway was not a product of bad blood from Talladega last year, nor did it have much to do with the incident between the two on lap 40.
Kurt Busch pulled away from the rest of the field on the second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish, and drove his Dodge to victory in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Jeff Gordon had the dominant car during the Shelby American at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. But, a two-tire gamble under the final caution ended up costing Gordon, as he watched teammate Jimmie Johnson and his four tires pass him in the closing laps to take the win.
Good fortune smiled on Jimmie Johnson, as it usually does, when he inhereted the lead by being on pit road when the caution came out during the closing laps of the Auto Club 500. He then held off a hard-charging Kevin Harvick during the final 20 laps to win the race.
Veteran crew chief Todd Parrott will replace Drew Blickensderfer as crew chief for Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 17 and driver Matt Kenseth, effective immediately. Parrott will serve as crew chief for this weekend’s race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
In the closing laps of the Daytona 500, NASCAR braced for a barrage of criticisms from fans and media memebers thanks to a two red flags and a two-hour delay to fix a pothole. In the end, however, Jamie McMurray and Dale Earnhardt Jr gave NASCAR a reason to breath a sigh of relief.
Jamie McMurray held off a hard-charging Dale Earnhardt Jr to win a thrilling Daytona 500 that was delayed nearly two hours thanks to a pothole that required patching twice. The race also made two attempts at a green-white-checker finish, due to the new rule.
Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne nipped Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart at the line respectively to emerge from the Gatorade Duels victorious. The combined margin of victory was .02 of a second. Johnson beat Harvick by a mere .005, and Kahne beat Stewart by .014.
NASCAR has announced a change to its finishing procedures, allowing three attempts at a green-white-checkered flag finish, so long as the leader does not take the white flag. The rule will implemented starting in the Gatorade Duels and will cover all three of NASCAR’s top series.
