Kevin Harvick overcame a series of slow pit stops to pass Denny Hamlin for the lead with 25 laps to go in the Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In the closing laps, he pulled away from Hamlin, winning the race by 1.361 seconds. The victory moved Harvick up to second all-time in the Nationwide Series with 35 victories.
The only way to steal some headlines from Danica Patrick, who finished 31st in her first full Nationwide race, was for a few drivers to create an exciting finish. Joey Logano, Greg Biffle, Brad Keselowski, and Kyle Busch decided to do just that with Busch stealing the victory.
Tony Stewart managed to avoid all the carnage that was the Nationwide Series’ Drive4COPD 300, winning the race by 0.309 seconds over Carl Edwards. Stewart held off challenges from Edwards, Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick, keeping his foot on the gas and his lead.
NASCAR officials held a press conference to unveil rule changes for the 2010 season. Many of the rules changes were leaked beforehand. But, one of the biggest surprises is that the yellow line rule, which was expected to go away, will in fact stay.
Danica Patrick announced on Tuesday that she has signed with JR Motorsports to run a part time Nationwide Series schedule in 2010. She will also enter the ARCA Series season opener in order to get NASCAR approval for the N’wide Race.
Kyle Busch took the Nationwide Series championship when the green flag flew. Then, he held off a hard-charging Carl Edwards to win the Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Denny Hamlin also made good on his threat to spin Brad Keselowski.
Rusty Wallace Racing and Toyota Racing Development announced that RWR is switching from Chevy to Toyota in the 2010 Nationwide Series season. Drivers Steve Wallace and Brendan Gaughan will return to the team full time in 2010, as well.
Carl Edwards delayed the inevitable for one week with his victory in the Nationwide Series’ Able Body Labor 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. All Kyle Busch has to do to clinc the championship is start next weekend’s race.
After winning the Camping World Truck Series’ WinStar 350 at Texas Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch backed it up with a dominating victory in the Nationwide Series’ O’Reilly Challenge. He led 179 of 200 laps.
Dodge Motorsports unveiled its Dodge Challenger Car of Tomorrow that will be used in four races in the Nationwide Series next year. They also announced that they would be expanding their relationship with Penske Championship Racing.
