Kyle Busch survived a green-white-checkered to win the Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
A late caution set the stage for a green-white checkered finish with Busch leading, Denny Hamlin in second. Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr. running third and fourth respectively.
Under the caution, Keselowki bumped Hamlin going into turn 1 and 2. Hamlin, then, swerved into Keselowski causing major damage to Keselowski’s left front.
Car owner Jr. who watched the whole incident, showed his displeasure, bumping Hamlin on the backstretch.
As they came to the green, Busch got a good jump and the top 4 started to pull away from the rest of the field.
Hamlin tried going low, then going high to no avail. Mike Wallace crashed hard into the outside wall as the field took the white flag, which ended the race.
After the race, Keselowki’s team and Hamlin’s team started mixing it up. NASCAR officials setpped in and broke up the team.
Busch got out of the car to a chorus of boos as he took his trademarked bow. I believe some people threw things at him.
Keselowski described the incident as “racing,” saying:
It was just hard racing. … [Hamlin] doesn’t like it when people race him hard. that’s what this sport is. That’s what I do.
Hamlin, however, said that Keselowski lacked patience because he doesn’t have Sprint Cup experience.
He said:
He lifted my tires up in 1 and 2 [under caution]. … I retaliated. If you throw a rock. I’m going to throw a concrete block back.
Car owner Jr. said:
[Hamlin] knocked the fender off that car. … I’m not happy about that.
Top 10: Busch, Hamlin, Keselowski, Earnhardt Jr., Brian Vickers, Clint Bowyer, Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, David Ragan, and Jimmie Johnson.
Notable: Carl Edwards (14th), Kasey Kahne (17th), Kevin Harvick (20th)
