Haas CNC had both its No. 66 and No. 70 cars confiscated Saturday afternoon. The No. 66 qualified 13th and the No. 70 qualified 43rd for the Coca Cola 600. Both teams will go to backup cars.
On Speed TV, before Nationwide qualifying, NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said:
We found an issue with location of upper wing mounting points. Those need to be set and they need to meet a certain spec. It was brought to our attention that something might have been amiss. We put them on the grid, and they did not fit. We took them to the R&D center to evaluate them further and get a better understanding.
NASCAR.com quoted Tharp as saying:
The garage is a self-policing area. We follow-up on information we get [and] we’re always inspecting racecars. That was the case with this.
Haas CNC said that they will issue a statement later today.
